Amazon to invest more than 1 billion euros to increase fleet of electric vans and trucks

2022-10-12

Amazon said on Monday it would invest more than 1 billion euros ($974.8 million) over the next five years to build electric vans, fleets of electric trucks and low-emission package centers across Europe.

In addition to carbon considerations, Amazon said the investment is aimed at driving innovation across the transportation industry and building more infrastructure for charging electric vehicles.

The investment will help Amazon grow its fleet of electric vans in Europe from 3,000 to more than 10,000 by 2025. At the same time, Amazon also hopes to buy 1,500 electric heavy-duty trucks in the next few years to deliver goods to package centers

While EVs are more expensive, they have a clear advantage in terms of operating costs. It is reported that Amazon is working on using electric vans and electric trucks for delivery. Currently, Amazon has about 3,000 zero-emission vans in Europe.
